Machine Design
The format will be a bit different on this page as this will be an ongoing process.
The plan is to work with the Incite Focus - Detroit staff to modify the MTM Snap Machine so that is would have a larger cut area. My section of the project has to do with the structural design.
I took the original design and stretched the base, front, and back, to allow for a seventeen inch cutting surface. This would give the machine the size capability necessary to create itself.
I have run in to some issues with cutting speed and broken bits have been the result. I had a successful cut of the body on 5/8/12 and will continue work and update as necessary.
Update - 8/7/12
Today I finished cutting the body of the machine and assembled the body and carriage. From here I will be working Blair Evans to design the control system and the rotary.
Moving Gantry with the set screw and Stepper motor will be added by Aug 12.
Update - Some of the cut pieces were off so need to be re-cut. Using the stepper control system I was able to automate one of the other machines in the lab to move. Video will be up soon.
We were asked to make a machine.
